As opposed to the last round of play testing where a caster that wasn’t focused entirely on lobbing damage at enemies could have bulked up the melee fighters an obscene amount. It mysteriously avoided the play-testers notice so I suspect they were saving it for when it would completely ruin me.

Progress

Every time it looks like I have something interesting to announce about the game, in fact every time I do announce something about the game, I discover a little imbalance that leads to a little change that leads to a complete overhaul when all of the maths gets screwy.

As such, you will not be seeing any previews of the game until we have finished the alpha testing. Because it is heartbreaking to post a preview of one of the awesome new classes only to discover that their abilities break another class.

Thanks to our brave play-testers we are knocking out all the kinks and pushing the rules to the point of destruction. We have a player intent on playing the least optimised combination of skills and stats imaginable. To contrast we have some evil geniuses scribbling away and making unbeatable level 1 juggernauts.

As of the latest update:

Rusted Blade is played using 1 inch squared maps and tokens when in dungeons.

2 Six-Sided dice are used to determine skill success and combat rolls.

Characters are created by rolling Stats, selecting a class/race combo, purchasing skills and abilities with a points-buy system and purchasing equipment with gold crowns.

There are 5 Races to choose from, though more may be added in later books.

There are 5 Classes to choose from and their higher level skill options WILL be expanded in later books.

There are 6 morality options on two axis.

Characters increase in level, gaining more skills and upgrading their current ones.

Almost all mechanical interaction within the game is based on successful use of skills or testing against a single statistic, both are effected by modifiers.

All other interaction is Role-Playing. So unless you spend your entire life crawling through dungeons, be prepared to chat.

The game is meant to be as easy to understand as possible, because when we started out, most of us could not tell you what the THAC0 of a Demogorgon was. But we still wanted to kill some goblins.
